Rainbow Place Shelter – Basket Raffle Fundraiser

Raffle for Rainbow

Event Dates : 10/01/2023 - 11/12/2023

For 41 years Rainbow Place Shelter has provided emergency hypothermia shelter to women in Montgomery County Maryland. Rainbow has 14 beds available each night, from November through March. Rainbow is small, but mighty. Approximately 3000 women have stayed at Rainbow over the years, and during those years Rainbow has added services well beyond providing shelter. Rainbow’s guests receive a warm, safe place to sleep, 3 meals a day, access to showers, laundry facilities, case management, and referrals to local social services, treatment and housing programs. Rainbow provides all these services while treating every person with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Now Rainbow is in the process of expanding its services to young adults (ages 18 – 24) in Montgomery County, including the LGBTQ+ community, with year-round, 24 hour, emergency shelter and the supports needed to transition out of homelessness. Rainbow’s new young adult shelter will house 30 guests. The shelter will include additional services, including mental health and substance abuse treatment/counseling, workforce development and much more. Rainbow will bring all of its experience and resources to this new population, who will certainly benefit at a critical time in their lives from Rainbow’s smaller size and caring staff.

“Raffle for Rainbow” is an online raffle that raises funds for our shelter.
Our raffle is a “basket” raffle, which means there are many prizes to be won. Participants buy as many tickets as they wish and put them in virtual baskets related to the prizes they’d like to win. Our raffle runs from October 1st through November 12th and will help support our current women’s shelter as well as help us to build our young adult shelter. We will announce the winners on November 13th. Please be sure to look at prize expiration dates closely, as some of them will need to be used right away!

About us

Since 1982, Rainbow Place Shelter has been a seasonal overnight shelter in Rockville serving adult women of all ages  who are experiencing homelessness. Historically, the shelter has been open each year from November 1 – April 1, keeping women safe in Montgomery County during the coldest months of the year. In addition to treating our guests with kindness and compassion, we actively help them transition out of homelessness and into more stable housing.

We are currently in the exciting process of expanding Rainbow’s mission to provide a safe haven for youth (18-24 years of age) experiencing homelessness in Montgomery County, Maryland inclusive of LGBTQ+, heterosexual, and cisgender individuals. Rainbow will provide year-round, 24-hour emergency shelter and support, offering a comprehensive set of services to facilitate their transition out of homelessness.
